Privacy Policy
Effective July 25, 2026
Short version: your dogs’ details live on your phone, we don’t sell anything to anyone, and there are no advertising trackers in this app.
What stays on your device
Your dogs — names, breeds, weights, allergies, health conditions, photos — are stored on your phone. So are your scan history, favorites, and collections. We can’t read them.
If you create an account, your dogs, saved foods and scan history are also copied to your account so they survive a lost phone and appear on a second device. That copy is readable only by you: it is protected by row-level security keyed to your account, and it is deleted when you delete your account.
What leaves your device
- Product lookups: a barcode or a few words of a label go to our catalog to fetch that product. We don’t attach them to you.
- Ask Snout: when you ask the assistant a question, your question and the relevant dog details you’ve entered (such as allergies or conditions) are sent to OpenAI to generate the answer. Don’t type anything into it you wouldn’t want processed by a third party.
- Label photos: if you photograph a label for a product we don’t have, that image is sent to be read and the resulting ingredient list is added to our catalog for everyone. The photo itself is not stored.
- Recalls: fetched directly from fda.gov. The FDA sees a plain request for a public page.
- Diagnostics: anonymous usage counts that tell us which screens are used and whether the app is crashing. No dog data, no scan contents, no search terms.
What we never do
We don’t sell or rent your information. We don’t run advertising networks in the app. We don’t build a profile of you to target anything at you. There is no session recording and no automatic capture of the screens you visit.
Payments
Subscriptions are handled entirely by Apple. We never see your card details — only whether a subscription is active.
Children
Snout isn’t directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their information.
Your choices
Deleting a dog removes it from your device. Deleting the app removes everything stored locally, which is nearly all of it. If you have an account, More › Settings › Delete account removes the account and everything synced to it, permanently. To ask what we hold or to have it removed, write to support@trysnout.com.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we’ll say so in the app.
